Russian-born Svetlana Shmulyian and her all-star jazz swing band have won an enthusiastic following through their appearances in the Back Room, New York City’s only remaining Prohibition- era speakeasy. The lively ensemble transports audiences with a carnival of sound, moving seamlessly from sophisticated, tender works to rowdy, exuberant, foot-stomping pieces that are utterly contemporary. The band’s diverse set list— from Ellington and Tin Pan Alley to the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and originals—is enhanced by superb musicianship and Svetlana’s engaging vocals. (Try googling “Times Square Swing Dance Flash Mob” to see what we mean!) Svetlana and the Delancey Five have played sold-out shows at the Tel Aviv Blues Festival, the Italian Villas and Jazz Festival, the Blue Note Jazz Festival, and the DC Jazz Festival.
